Biography of Mr. Abraham Bernard Kofi Antobam Woode was born on Friday 24th January, 1941 to Mr. Benjamin Johnson Woode and Mrs Hannah Woode, both of Enyan Abaasa in the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam Constituency of the Central Region. He was the 11th child of his mother. His father was a well respected catechist of the Methodist Church in his community. Unfortunately, his father died before his birth, hence his name “Antobam”, leaving his mother, a single parent to take care of him and his siblings- a duty she lovingly and diligently discharged.Uncle Kofi Antobam, as he was affectionately called by all was a bubbly child, he quickly learned the values of respect, humility, dedication and a sense of responsibility to one’s duty to the family and the community he lives in. Uncle Kofi, was an extrovert by all standards. One who lived by the mantra that “One does not need to know a person by name before making an acquaintance or friend”, hence he had an army of friends and was likeable to many both young and old. After completing his primary education at his hometown and passing his Common Entrance Examination, he gained admission to Ghana National College at Cape Coast in 1957. He obtained his Ordinary Level Certificate in 1961. He then continued with his post - secondary education at Kwadaso Agricultural College in the Ashanti Region, where he trained to become an Agricultural Extension Officer. After graduation, he was posted to various communities in the Central Region, where he provided technical support to both farmers and fishermen. He was passionate about improving the livelihoods of the communities he served and he was more that eager to offer advice and assistance when needed. He recounts the various journeys he undertook on his motorcycle from one community to another sharing his knowledge and expertise in his field and also the valuable lessons he learnt through community engagements. He later joined the Agricultural Development Bank as a project officer. He was instrumental in the setting up of the branch at Assin Fosu, where he later became the manager until his resignation after the Coup of 1981 when he had a tip-off that his life was in danger. He relocated to Accra to join his elder brother, the Late Mr. Kwesi Anaku Sam-Woode, who was an established publisher and had founded the Sam-Woode Ltd (SWL). He worked with his brother whom he admired and respected for several years. When he eventually decided to settle in Cape Coast to raise his family, he continued to be the key distributor of Sam-Woode (SWL) books to schools in Cape Coast and it’s environs. He established his own business with a bookshop at the Old Kotokuraba Market called Antomais Bookshop for several years until he was unable to do so due to old age. His bookshop was always full of people which was not surprising because of his affable nature. However, many of such visitors were there to either take a break from their shopping in the market or to indulge in other social discourse. He was very knowledgeable in customary matters and people went to him to discuss their problems and have them resolved. He had such a pleasant disposition that endeared him to others. In most cases, you will see him standing whiles his visitors occupy the little space in his modest shop.Mr. Antobam Woode started a family with Madam Rita Davis in the early 70s. They are blessed with Six Children; Constance Woode, Charity Woode, Hannah Woode, Emmanuel Woode, Bernice Aba Woode and Benjamin Woode. He had other families; Late Madam Sarah Adjapong of whom he had Emmanuel Bernard Woode; Madam Margaret Asaam of whom he had an adopted son, Ernest Mintah. He was blessed with 17 grandchildren. Mr. Antobam Woode loved his family dearly. He made a lot of sacrifices to ensure that they receive the best of education. He instilled the fear of God, discipline, hard work, patience, dedication and gratitude in them. He loved children and he was ecstatic anytime he is called Grandpa by his grandchildren or any child he encounters. He never lost his wits and humour even in difficult times and always had a story or a personal life experience to share when giving an advice. In his later years, Mr. Antobam Woode joined the Church of Christ, in Enyaan Abaasa after a visit to his hometown. Upon his return to Cape Coast, he joined the UCC church and later the Central Church of the Church of Christ in Cape Coast. He was committed to his attendance to Church and was always visited at home when he could not attend. These visits became regular when he was unable to make it to church regularly due to ill health. He was always expectant of their visits on Sundays and enjoyed the Bible studies and communion service. Mr. Antobam Woode considered gratitude as one of the greatest virtues of life and he was always thankful to His Maker for blessing him with the love of his family and the people around him.He never ceased to say “Thank you” for even the little courtesies extended to him by both young and old. We remember when he was taken ill on Friday,22nd November, 2024. He told us before he left for the hospital that he will come home soon. We had no doubts about that, and on subsequent visit by us to the hospital he was eager to be discharged. At a point he wanted to use his walking stick to walk around the hospital ward to demonstrate that he has fully recovered. He always extended his greetings to his grandchildren and always enquired about them when we visited. On Thursday, 28th November, 2024 he was called home to His Maker. Although we are sad that you did not come home to us, we know that you are at a better home that our Father in Heaven has prepared for you. We will miss you dearly, but we are consoled that you are at a better place.Rest in Peace, Mr Antobam Woode,Rest in Peace, Daddy,Rest in Peace, Grandpa.

"A grandfather is often seen as the one who knows everything, and our grandpa certainly proved that over the years. Through his actions, he showed us how much grandfathers cherish and adore their grandchildren. Affectionately known as Egya Woode, He taught us that grandfathers are simply old-fashioned boys at heart, who find joy in playful moments with their grandchildren. He took a keen interest in our education and contributed significantly to it. We cherish all the wonderful memories we shared with him. He was always our anchor, and now we feel lost without him. As we lay him to rest today, we are comforted by the eternal love and happiness he gave us through countless hugs and kisses. When he left, he gained new wings, and we believe he now knows what lies beyond the galaxy. He gave us the joy of being his grandchildren. He was a lovely person, and now he can rest in peace and enjoy heaven's goodness. We will always love and miss you, Egya Woode."

"A Tribute to Our Beloved Father! Our hearts are heavy, yet filled with gratitude as we honor the life of our beloved father—a man of great wisdom, strength, and unwavering love. Though words can never fully capture the depth of his impact on our lives, we find comfort in sharing the footprint he left behind. Our father was more than just a parent; he was our protector, our teacher, and our guide. He walked with dignity, upholding the values of integrity, respect, and humility. He taught us the importance of helping others, the power of kindness, and the strength found in unity. His hands, calloused from years of labor, were the same hands that wiped away our tears, embraced us with warmth, and lifted us when we stumbled. He carried the wisdom of our ancestors, speaking in proverbs that now echo in our hearts. His laughter filled our home, his discipline shaped our character, and his prayers covered us like a shield. He showed us what it meant to stand tall in the face of adversity, and to never forget our holiness to God.Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit lives on. In the way we carry ourselves, in the lessons we pass on to our own children, and in the love we share as a family. His legacy will never fade, for he built it in our hearts, in our actions, and in the lives he touched. Dad, we miss you dearly, but we find peace knowing that you rest in the arms of the Lord. Thank you for everything—for your sacrifices, your love, and your unwavering guidance. We will continue to honor you in the way we live, just as you would have wanted.Rest well, our beloved father.Until we meet again. With love, Your Children"

"All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers, and the flowers fall. (1 Peter 1:24) We are indeed saddened by the demise of our late grandfather, father, uncle, brother and most importantly a Soldier in the body of Christ. Opanyin Antobam as we all called him in the church was a lovely and an active person at the time he worshiped with us. He was baptized at the Lord’s church in Enyan Abaasa before he moved to cape coast where he started worshiping with the UCC Community Church of Christ. He later joined us at the Cape Coast Central Church of Christ on the 6th of May, 2018 when he finally settled down at Ola/Adisadel. Though Opanyin Antobam was well advanced in age at that time, he was always a sight to behold on Sunday mornings at church. His enthusiasm and interest in the lord’s work was always present and a driving force that inspired many within the church. After fellowshipping with the church for some time, he started battling with poor health. This prevented him from having a constant meeting with fellow brethren. At some time, he would call on the church to arrange to help send him to the hospital because his children were not immediately around. We gladly heeded to this call anytime it came through as it offered us the chance to show him love as Christ would have done. Almost every Sunday after church, leadership would arrange that he should be served with the holy communion, and as such he was always visited for that purpose. We regularly visited him and shared God’s word with him anything there was an opportunity. The church also ensured that he would always receive his end of year gift presentations that are always given to the aged in the church. On several occasions, the Preacher made sure that he led the delegation himself just to pray for our father and his family. He was always grateful for this act of benevolence from the church as his wife always thanked and praised the church for these acts of service. At such visits, Opanyin would crack jokes and share tales of his early days and youth, just to encourage us to keep on serving God because he will always come through for us just like he has always done for him. The church will surely miss Opanyin Antobam Woode as he journeys home today. May the God of our weary years keep you in His bosom, even as we shed our tears in silence for blessing our generation with you. Until we meet again, we say Rest in Perfect Peace. AMEN."

"You turn men back to dust, saying, "Return to dust, O sons of men" .... Psalm 90:3................................... Uncle Kofi, most of your working days after your education had been outside Abaasa, so we may not know much details about you, but still, the impact from the little we shared, when it comes to the history of the Ebusua is undeniable. We honour memories of your contributions and are grateful for the connection we shared. As we remember you today, we acknowledge the sacrifices you made, challenges you faced and the love you shared with those around you. Your memory may fade with time but your influence on the family journey will always be felt. May your memories continue to unfold through the heritage we shared.
